Other people’s dreams are never interesting…except when they’re about sex. Each week, our dream analyst Lauri Loewenberg tells one lucky reader what their dirty dream means. This week, a reader asks Lauri:
Last night I had dream about an ex fling that I had a couple of months ago…we were never official, but we just pretty much kinda were? I don’t know. Anyways, he has a new girlfriend now, that I’m kind of upset about because it’s kinda a slap in the face, because he never mentioned he wanted me to be his girlfriend. Yet five months later he’s dating another girl. Anf he never officially called it off with me either — one day we were fine and the next I never heard from him again. Anyways, in my dream I was with my dad and my brother at a park (I think it was new in the dream) and I was sitting by a bench studying some math homework! And I see my ex fling with his new girlfriend sitting across from me, and mainly having his focus on me. Which is weird because his gf was right next to him and I would catch him staring quite a lot! So I’m stuck, I don’t know what this means.
Lauri: This issue obviously bothers you, so your dreaming mind is trying to help you sort it out. Your dream takes place in a park for a very good reason. We go to parks to relax and to get away from it all. Your wise, inner dreaming mind feels you need to relax about this and get away from it. Your dad and your brother are with you because you learned from them what men are like… or perhaps what men ought to be like. Do you wish this guy were more like your father and brother in some way? It’s also possible that they represent the male side of you, the part of you that needs to “man up” about this and not be so emotional.
You are on a bench in the dream because you feel you have been “benched,” put out of the game, by this guy. And you are doing math homework because you are trying to figure this all out, how the heck does this situation add up?
Now, it’s important to remember that everything and everyone in your dream is really all you. Even though your ex fling does represent himself, it is actually more about how you feel about him. He is staring at you in the dream because in real life YOU have not been able to take your focus off of him, despite the fact that he has moved on to someone else and left you hanging. Yes, that makes it hard to close this chapter when you weren’t told how to end it… but it has indeed ended. I think your dream is showing you that it’s time to stop trying to figure this out. Just as you no longer need to do math homework, so should you stop taking this problem home with you and trying to solve it. You don’t need that.
