Other people’s dreams are never interesting…except when they’re about sex. Each week, our dream analyst Lauri Loewenberg tells one lucky reader what their dirty dream means. This week, a reader asks Lauri:
Ok, in real life several years ago I fell for my friend who is the same sex. We almost acted on it, but didn’t. We have remained good friends since. I have not felt like that since. But last week, I had a dream that she had gotten a haircut basically to (in my dream) show me she was gay. And she was giving me this smile of…hmm, wanting to get together with me. Like saying that I (me) had known all along or I wanted her and now she felt the same. Then I woke up. Haven’t had the heart to tell her or ask anyone in my life what the heck that was about…Help!
Lauri: Dreams often confuse the bejeezuz out of us because we try to understand them with our literal conscious mind, when they are actually created by our symbolic, subconscious mind. That being said, your dream is not likely telling you it’s time to act on that hot moment from long ago. Instead, your dream is reminding you of that moment and those feelings you had because something must be going on somewhere in your waking life right now that feels the same way. What is awfully tempting to you right now that you are hesitant to act on? It may not necessarily be a relationship with someone but something else like a project you have been thinking about doing. Oh! That haircut is important! Hair in dreams represents thoughts and ideas, because like hair, thoughts and ideas sprout from the head. To cut hair means you need to cut an idea or thought or mindset short. Perhaps it is the hesitance that you need to cut short. Whatever it is, it seems that your inner mind is giving you the nod – or the smile – of approval to go ahead and go for it!
Response from dreamer: Hmm, I can see how this makes sense. I feel like God has something for me to do and while at times I get excited, other times I feel ill equipped and other times I think, “Me? seriously?” And it is confusing. I just want to know if I am really hearing ‘Him.’ That’s what I’m hesitant on. AND exploring my sexuality openly without inhibitions without my husband. I can now see the haircut as some constructive advice. I think to “go for it” is this sexual inhibition, just letting go and enjoying the hell out of myself! Wow is what I am left saying. But feeling so relieved too, to know that those feelings with my friend are probably NOT coming back. I don’t think finding your site was by chance. Thanks for the help.
