Other people’s dreams are never interesting…except when they’re about sex. Each week, our dream analyst Lauri Loewenberg tells one lucky reader what their dirty dream means. This week, a reader asks Lauri:
I had a dream that I was a man and I’ve somehow gotten some girl pregnant. I started freaking out and I asked her if the baby was mine. She insisted it was mine but I was in denial and decided to have a paternity test. The baby, of course, turns out to be mine. I decided there was no way around this: I asked the girl for an abortion, telling her that my life was just starting, I couldn’t have a baby to hold me down. She declined, begging me to see the good the baby would be for us. I couldn’t, so I told her that I couldn’t be in the baby’s life and I wouldn’t see her again as long as she kept the baby because I refused to sacrifice my life for a baby I didn’t plan for. What in the WORLD does that mean? I’m not pregnant nor am I seeing someone. I do like this one guy a lot and wish to get together, get married and start a family. I’m just confused as to why I would be dreaming about this?
Lauri: Gender bending in a dream can really freak you out, so you might be happy to know that it is more common than you think. In your dream you were a man, which means that – at the time of this dream – you must have taken on some sort of assertive role in your life. In what way did you “man up,” “grow a pair” and take charge? Whatever it was you did, it seems to have produced an unwanted result… and you are in denial about it. What is it you are refusing to own up to? What waking life responsibility or obligation are you trying to get out of? Whatever it is, your dreaming mind is showing it to you in the form of a baby so you can see that this unwanted situation in your life could grow and develop into something pretty cool, if you would just accept it and deal with it. You see it as something that will restrict you, yet your wiser dreaming sees it as something with potential. If it’s not too late, you may want to rethink this. Abandoning this situation and not owning up to what you did may not be the best thing for you.
Response from Dreamer: At that time when I had the dream, I said some horrible stuff to a guy that I’ve liked, he then decided to stop talking to me as a result. It was horrible, the worst thing I’ve ever said to a person when I realized I was dead wrong. I manned up and wrote him an email apologizing. A couple weeks after that I had the dream, we made up and talked. Things are still shaky because of other things but I’m glad the analysis of my dream was very dead on! Thanks again!
