Advice, Dream Interpretation

Other people’s dreams are never interesting…except when they’re about sex. Each week, our dream analyst Lauri Loewenberg tells one lucky reader what their dirty dream means. Got a dream you want Lauri to analyze? Click here to submit it) This week, a reader asks Lauri:

I had a dream that one of my best friends died and, whilst I was grieving for her, she came to me as a ghost. She told me that she was in limbo and could see what was going to happen and had a chance to get back to us to tell me that my boyfriend and I are going to stay together, be good friends for life and have a baby boy.

Two nights later, I had a dream that my boyfriend and I are sleeping in that same friend’s room, which is unusually messy (she is alive in this dream). He is on a high bunkbed, and I am doing a pole dance for him, trying to angle my bum in a very provocative way to give him a hard-on.

Then, the next thing I remember, my friend’s dad (who I know quite well) needs to sleep in that room. I ask if we can also stay the night because my boyfriend needs to get up early for work and we’re far from home. My friend says yes and lays out cushions on the floor for me and my boyfriend to sleep on. When we lie down to go to sleep, my boyfriend starts to have sex with me, which is pleasant but also makes me feel weird because my mate’s dad is in the same room. Then her dad sits up and says that my friend is lonely and needs to lie with my boyfriend. She does this, and I don’t feel very threatened about this as she is not really his type, and in fact I feel quite turned on because I think they are going to have sex. Then we have a weird threesome which gets even weirder when her dad joins in and starts to turn me on.

Um… what the hell?

Lauri: What the hell, indeed! This mish mash of people, places and sex certainly is a head scratcher. Let’s see if we can figure it out. The first rule of thumb to remember, when trying to unlock your dreams, is that just about everyone that shows up in your dream is more likely representing some part of you rather than playing themselves.

Your friend, I believe, represents the part of you that is a friend to your boyfriend (any healthy lasting relationship needs friendship as the foundation). She died in the dream. Did you recently have a situation with your boyfriend where you felt like the friendship between the two of you was in jeopardy… or in limbo? What she tells you in the dream is actually reassurance you were giving to yourself that you shouldn’t worry, you and your boyfriend are great friends even if there was something causing you concern at the time. She also tells you that you will have a boy together. Well, I don’t necessarily subscribe to dreams being prophetic so I think that is more about your relationship going through a rebirth.

In your second dream you and your boyfriend are in your friend’s messy room. That is more about you and your boyfriend’s friendship being in a messy or confusing state. You are then trying to turn him on in the dream because you must have — at that time in real life — been trying to entice him to help straighten out what you felt was somewhat of a mess.

Your friend’s dad then enters the room. The dad is more likely the part of you that can be in charge, he can even represent your ability to bring home the bacon and manage the bacon. Are there financial fights between you and your boyfriend? The dad needing to go to sleep means you really want to put this issue to rest. You tell him you are far from home because, at the time, you were far from where you wanted your relationship to be and your boyfriend needing to get up and go to work is connected to your feelings that he needs to get up and work on this relationship with you.

Long story short, once all you guys start to go to sleep you decide to have a gang bang! What that REALLY means is that the best way to bring pleasure and satisfaction back into your relationship is to let certain issues lie, put to rest the silly little things that really don’t amount to a hill of beans. The main message of these dreams is that there is a strong friendship within your relationship with your boyfriend that outweighs the little things that can mess it up.
