Dream Interpretation: A Friend Kisses Me in My Sleep

Other people’s dreams are never interesting…except when they’re about sex. Each week, our dream analyst Lauri Loewenberg tells one lucky reader what their dirty dream means. This week, a reader asks Lauri:

So I had a dream about sleeping: somehow a longtime classmate/friend kissed me on the lips and we both just slept. In reality he has popped up in my life a lot. Thanks!

Lauri: Well! Isn’t this interesting? You didn’t mention whether you had feelings for this person or not… but I am going to take an educated guess that you do because you don’t seem to be freaked out or grossed out by the dream.

And the fact that you were sleeping in the dream is another clue. Here’s why: when you or someone else is asleep in a dream, it represents something that has been lying dormant in your life, such as a skill, a behavior or even certain emotions. This old friend suddenly pops into your dream just as he has suddenly popped into your life in reality. This may have “awakened” certain emotions within you just as he awoke you in the dream.

He also kisses you on the lips, which is very reminiscent of when Prince Charming kissed Sleeping Beauty, however you both went back to sleep instead of living happily ever after! Are you worried that he hasn’t “awakened” to his feelings for you?

Fear not, your dream has advice. Like I have mentioned in this column many times before, kissing in a dream can often be connected to conversation in real life because – like kissing – it takes two mouths to converse. I believe your dream may be telling you to use your mouth and open the lines of communication so you can wake him up to your feelings. Easier said than done. I asked Em & Lo, and they recommend testing the waters slowly — inquiring about his relationship status, seeing if he’s amenable to having dinner or going to a movie — and if the signs are positive, then you may just have to make a move on him…but not when he’s sleeping!
