Dream Interpretation: My Current Boyfriend Is My Ex in My Dreams

Other people’s dreams are never interesting…except when they’re about sex. Each week, our dream analyst Lauri Loewenberg tells one lucky reader what their dirty dream means. Got a dream you want Lauri to analyze? Click here to submit it) This week, a reader asks Lauri:

I had a dream that my boyfriend and I were at the beach. We were staying in a house that I’ve stayed in before and I found some old pictures. One was a picture of my boyfriend and I said to him “This is me and my ex.” But it was my current boyfriend! What does this mean?

Lauri: Well, why don’t we talk about the elephant in the room first. Is there anything that is causing you to worry that he may soon be remembered as an ex (since pictures are for capturing memories)? If not, then I think your dream may be trying to clue you into something that is going on that could lead the two of you to exdom if it isn’t addressed and remedied.

In the dream you are in a house you have been in before, which may mean that you are in a place in your relationship that you have been in before. So ask yourself what is going on in this current relationship that has the Déjà vu factor and feels awfully similar to a past relationship? Or is there something happening in this relationship that has happened before that could cause a rift between you if it isn’t taken care of? Just as you found old pictures in the dream, are you bringing up the past with your boyfriend in waking life? Guys hate that, when we gals can’t leave well enough alone!

Anyhoo, if that’s not the case, then your dream may be simply reflecting the fact that there is something about your current boyfriend that reminds you of your ex, in which case I hope it’s a positive quality that makes you want to keep him rather than a negative one that will cause you to kick him to the curb!
