Gay Married Couples Refuse to Lie on Taxes

RefuseToLie.org is an effort to take a stand against the federal government’s refusal to recognize gay marriages across the country. As it is now, the IRS calls for gay couples who are legally married in states that recognize the union to file as “single” — and some people aren’t going to step in line anymore. As the site cautions, “Taking this principled stand is not without risk and each person doing so needs to carefully consider those risks before deciding if it is a stand you are willing to take.” But as one commenter on the site suggested, “We’ve got to find ways to make inequality costly for our government and our communities.” Though, of course, it might cost the activists themselves who refuse to lie on the forms a pretty penny in fines.
