We got the following letter of enquiry via our site this past weekend, from a guy claiming to be in a long distance relationship with the love of his life, who’s now trying to crowdfund a trip to see her so he can propose. We’re suckers for a good love story, but we ain’t buying this one. The Indiegogo video is full of cheesy stock photography, syrupy music, an insincere-sounding voice-over, and basically zero personal info. Oh, and the creepy laughing! We think it’s more likely that this is an experiment in what people will fall for than it is a real public plea for supporting tru wuv. (Apparently, people won’t fall for much, since he hasn’t gotten a dime in the past three days). What do you think? Is this a fraud, or are we just cold-hearted cynics? Is this a scam perpetrated by someone without an editor, or is it just a misguided attempt at crowdfunding by a total cheeseball?

I came across your blog and wanted to reach out to you. After reading much of what you have written I know you can relate to where I am coming from. I wanted to share my story with you.. I hope you will find it in your heart to pass this along and share it with your readers.
I met my Girlfriend one random night around the Holidays in 2003. There seemed to be an instant connection but neither of us really thought one way or another about it at the time. Over the next few months we kept in touch and would email each other on occasion to say Hi. The more we talked, we really got to know each other as individuals. Who we are, our personalities, our values, our thoughts, our goals and dreams. We realized that we were so much alike even though we came from completely different backgrounds.
As time went on we grew even closer. At the time neither of us were searching for a connection with someone in this way, yet we found ourselves being distracted by thoughts of each other at the most random moments. Every day, everywhere we went, everything we did, we found our minds being filled with thoughts of each other in the sweetest way. We would catch ourselves smiling a very special smile, that everyone around us noticed, every time we were lost in those thoughts or even at the mere mention of each other’s name.
We were falling in love.
When you find that one person who completes you in every way, the entire world changes, everything around you changes. True Love is Everything.. Everything wrapped in a very special gleaming smile. There are no words to completely describe the warm feeling of True Love, of that deep connection you share with someone as if that person was as much a part of you as you are them. True Love fills your heart, mind, body and soul in ways that are truly indescribable. The kind of feeling that fills you with hope as if anything is possible. The kind of feeling that makes the rest of the world vanish whenever you see them. The simple thought of each other takes your breath away and leaves you completely speechless.. only able to smile. Everything in this life that I Love, that I Feel, that I am Passionate about, that I Believe in, that I Respect, that I Trust, that I Miss, that I Crave.. is all wrapped up into One Person.. She is My Everything!
It has been the Most Amazing nine years of my entire life.
Six years ago she had the opportunity to attend a very prestigious university. A rare once in a lifetime opportunity that is not something to pass up. I was so proud of her. She was reluctant to go and didn’t want to leave me behind but I encouraged it and supported her in every way. I knew we would be okay. We would make it work. Our Love would get us through the distance and the time apart.. and it easily did. We worked hard to achieve our goals and kept in touch every day. Though as life sometimes goes, this new road eventually led her overseas. She would be even further away now and we wouldn’t be able to see each other or communicate as much as we were used to. Again, we knew we could get through this challenge. It would only be for six months or so and we would be together once again in each other’s arms.. sharing the very same love filled smile for the whole world to see.
That six months.. became six years.
To be so far apart from the one you love is hard. To miss someone so much.. To love someone so much.. that words cannot describe how tough it is being away from them. Sometimes the days/nights are hard and we miss each other so much that it hurts. Yet we are still right there with each other in our hearts and in our dreams. True Love gets us through each day. Though far apart, we feel each other deep within our hearts as if we were face to face in each other’s arms. We continue to wish and dream and hope that we can figure out a way.. some way.. any way.. to be able to see each other again after 6 years of being apart. True Love Always Finds A Way..I have always been one to follow my heart.. Both of us do. It led us to each other and keeps our hearts together to this very day.
There are many people who have spent time apart from the ones they love because of work or school or being in the military or many other reasons and can relate. It isn’t easy being away from someone you love for so long. Words cannot describe how it feels to be so far apart from each other.. To miss each other dearly every single day.
So I have decided to take a very big step and follow my heart to try to find a way to be able to go see her and surprise her for Valentine’s Day. To be able to wrap my arms around her again after so many years. To be able to look deep into her beautiful tears of joy filled eyes.. and ask her to become my wife. It will be the most amazing, dream come true moment of our lives. After doing much research I decided to put together an Indiegogo Campaign to try and help our wish, our dream come true. I also put together a video to share a little more about our story and this challenge we have had to face for so long. If you would like to watch it and share it with your readers it would mean the world to me and to her too. I hope that we can make this a reality and be able to see each other again after 6 long years of being apart. It truly would be a dream come true.

Fake, very fake, but a nice fastasy. If you observe the style he writes he’s a poet, that’s not hard to tell and He writes softly but passionately. He has read many a Shakespearean Sonnet.
I had a really, really hard time reading it all the way through, but I second what Ben says.
