Social Networking Leads to Oscar Nominations, Casual Sex

The movie The Social Network scored eight Oscar nominations last week, but that’s not the only way in which social networking, lower case, is scoring. According to a poll conducted by Men’s Fitness and Shape magazines (not exactly the ivory towers, we know, but the sex and dating research coming out of there is often just as fluffy), women say yes to sex sooner when they have been wooed via social networking. Apparently all that connectedness before and between dates, from text messages to Facebook “likes,” makes a relationship seem longer and more permanent. Which makes a woman feel more comfortable jumping into bed with a near stranger. All the more terrifying, then, that kids these days are capable of texting during class without even removing their phones from their pockets. You could skip entire bases during math class and not even know it. Miss the eighties much?
