Wise Guys: Tomboy vs. Girly Girl — Who Wins?

Advice from three of our guy friends. This week they answer the following: “Regarding the “guy’s girl”: Is a woman who’ll shoot pool and pound a few brews automatically sexier than a girly girl?”

chris_diclericoStraight Single Guy (Chris): Let’s get this one straight once and for all. There is nothing sexier than a girl in a tight football jersey. There is nothing less sexy than a girl that knows more about the Giants than I do. Beer and sports in moderation please, but have a high tolerance for when we go overboard during the playoffs. Turducken anyone? It’s the same for girly-girls. Everyone likes a girl to know how to dress, how to apply makeup, and how to act like a lady. And everyone hates the spoiled rotten fashionphile that doesn’t know about anything other than name brands and celebrity gossip. Balance ladies, balance. Tight jersey on the weekends. A few beers and a few rounds of pool. Don’t join the dart league or beat me at fantasy football. And when its time to go out, please feel free to put on the party dress and heels without making us feel like we are attending the Oscars.

Straight Committed Guy (Johnny): Nah, the girly girl is still sexier. Femininity is attractive. I think the guy’s girl appeals to the “wouldn’t it be awesome if your best bud was a chick, and you could bone him… er, her?” fantasy. But at the end of the day, I like to be the masculine one in the relationship. Plus I’m a sucker for a woman in heels and skirts and makeup and sexy panties. Of course, this little fetish of mine means my girlfriends don’t usually connect with my guy friends, who can be truly gross. Not that they ever dislike each other, but they never really get close either. I guess that would be one nice thing about dating a guy’s girl.

Gay Single Guy (Angelo Nikolopoulos): I knew a “guy’s girl” in college once. She liked baseball, brews, and bulldogs. She’s a Frank now who works at a nearby PetSmart. Color me biased, but I don’t trust anyone who pounds anything.

  1. Surely girly girl wins. I am a woman and have experience how men changed their attuide when you behave like a woman. I was a tomboy when I was younger and most of boys disliked me saying you are rough and not gentle. That’s why I’ve decided to become a true woman.

  2. Where’s the nerdy girl option? I feel like that’s often somewhere in between… but along a separate axis.

  3. my girlfriend is a tomboy. that’s how i fell in love with her. it would be easier to hang out with her because we liked the same stuff. but just because she’s a tomboy didn’t mean she wasn’t a girl. she became comfortable with me so whenever something stressed her out her girly side would come out. now that we are together she dresses like a girly girl because she likes to get my attention and i love watching her dress like that. but at the end of the day if I’m able to go home with her and just goof off like she was one of my buddies then I’m happy. Basically her attitude attracted me before her body and that’s what every girl should do

  4. Yeah, this was a bummer. I usually expect more insight from these guys/this blog. Ah well

  5. I am a tough broad and a girly-girl wrapped in one package.
I did my time in the military but wore VS every single day.
I can put a spare tire on, I can change the oil in my car, I am a sharpshooter & love obstacle courses.
My current boyfriend loves me for all that I am, we shoot pool together, play paintball and wrestle a little and we go out & I love knowing that he’s proud to be seen next to me whether I’m in fatigues or am wearing silky sparkly stuff. My masculinity does not undermine his- it compliments it. We’re both strong. We’re both in touch with our masculinity and femininity & I wouldn’t have it any other way.
Ladies, if a guy is intimidated by you, then that’s not the “man” for you. No, you don’t have to prove how boyish or girlish you are to anyone. The right person will adore you as you are.  Embrace who you are.
You can’t let yourself get caught up in what other people want, not only are you betraying yourself but it shows- and no one likes someone that is trying too hard. If you’re girly, embrace that. If you’re a tomboy, embrace that. If you’re both or neither, well, embrace that!
The qualities one needs to concern themselves with are things like honesty, patience, treating others with kindness.

  6. Huh…these answers really surprised me. I guess it’s kinda like how I like my men – sure you want a real man’s man, but if he’s constantly out there chopping wood and not sometimes, just a little bit talking about his feelings, hopes and dreams..well that’s just odd. Balance is better.
