Dear Em & Lo,

I have gotten myself into quite a pickle and I’m desperate for some sound advice! I know you and my fellow readers will be able to help. So, here’s the scoop….

I went in to get a tattoo a while back and had an instant connection with my artist. A couple of tattoos later we started casually texting and eventually met up for drinks… all of this occurring over the span of a few months. After hanging out a few times we made the adult, yet inebriated, decision to umm… shag? Yes, we were protected. So, what’s the problem you ask? Let me explain…

I was also dating someone else and I’m falling in love with him… a feeling he shares. I don’t want to see tattoo boy in a romantic fashion, but it gets pretty complicated because he’s expressed his love for me. I have unfinished tattoos by him and I REALLY want to keep him as my artist and we have an amazing friendship that I value tremendously. The biggest problem of all? We are in business together! We are within weeks of launching our business.

How do I tell him that I don’t feel the same way he does? How do I tell him about the other guy? How do I do this without losing my artist, my business partner, and most importantly, my friend? Oh my gosh, what have I done?

  1. Okay, I’m just gonna come out with this. I found this thread and this webpage right now because I literally Googled “I had sex with my tattoo artist” because I DID THE EXACT SAME THING and I wanna share my story on how I can help. Only difference is, I am a male and she is female. She came over one night when I told her I can score her some music after a session at her work and because we began striking up a friendship when she was doing my chest piece. Then all of a sudden, she’s cuddling up next to me when I invited her over, so I kissed her and we had sex. This all happened about 10 days ago. Since then, she’s came over multiple times and we’ve had unprotected sex several times. She’s fucking gorgeous beyond belief so it’s hard to not want her and I know exactly how you feel of not wanting to fall for a tattoo person because this girl I’m writing about even uses some HORRIBLE drugs on a regular basis. I’m terrified of being attached. I guess the best you can really do is just not let them get the best of you. I can say I’m in a friends with benefits situation with my tattoo artist but I really don’t want to let it get the best of me in the same way you writing this gets you. I love when she comes over because I love not being able to sleep alone at night, but you know, it’s not always possible when she works so late and does drugs and basically doesn’t live anywhere at the moment. Keep your head up, find friends and have fun. Get your mind far away from him. That’s what I do to keep my mind off her.

  2. Damn, I’d give ANYTHING to sleep with my tattoo artist. I’m going back to the shop next week to see if I can get him to fuck me. Might get banned, but I gotta try…

  3. They say you’re not suppose to shit where you eat. You pooped all over Xmas dinner. This will not end well and there is no way you are going to be able to talk your way out of this one. Tattoos and business with the tattoo boy are over. You likely broke his heart and that’s not something a relationship can come back from. Sorry, hope the new guys is worth it.

  4. You’ve got a lot at stake here. For the sake of your relationship, financial, and body art well being, you NEED to fess up to this guy. I promise you, it’s all going to come out at some point. If you’re proactive, you can control how much of a shit storm develops and explain things gently. If you care for him as a friend, you know in your heart that you owe it to him to be truthful. It’s probably what you would want if the situation were reversed. Plus, doing it now will give things time to calm down before you have to work together. And for the love of god, don’t let him tattoo you until you are positive that he isn’t pissed anymore. You don’t want to wind up with a dick tattooed on your back or something equally awful.
