Other people’s dreams are never interesting…except when they’re about sex. Each week, our dream analyst Lauri Loewenberg tells one lucky reader what their dirty dream means. Got a dream you want Lauri to analyze? Click here to submit it) This week, a reader asks Lauri:
I had a dream that I was having sex with a man, I’m a straight guy that has no interest in males. But in this dream I was riding this guy and seemed to enjoy it in the dream, it seemed to go on forever until he came inside me. Does this mean I want to have sex with men?
Lauri: It is very common to wake up from a gay sex dream and question which team you really do bat for. I suspect it is because the feelings in the dream are very real. However, if you truly did bat for the other team, you would not need a dream to convince you. That being said, it is important to remember — and I know I say this all the time — that your dreams are symbolic and should not be taken literally. Therefore, sex in a dream is not necessarily about sex at all but more about merging or uniting qualities, ideas or opinions of the other person into your own self.
Now the guy in your dream is not an actual person so he will likely represent that which is considered male energy: assertiveness, growing a pair and handling a situation. In my research, I’ve found that when a male has a guy-on-guy dream it can almost always be connected to having done something particularly “manly” or assertive the previous day, such as getting a promotion, landing a hot date, fixing the carburetor, etc. Do you recall accomplishing anything macho and manly around the time of this dream? The enjoyment you experience in the dream is a direct result of something that brought you enjoyment that previous day.
You also were “riding” him so this could be a play on words (dreams just LOVE to do that) in that perhaps you “went along for the ride” as far as a certain situation goes OR perhaps you were “riding” someone in waking life meaning you were really on them, pressuring them to do something. The length of time it took in your dream also suggests this is about something in real life that seemingly took a while. The guy orgasms in the end, which in dream life is symbolic of completion. So to summarize, I believe this dream is related to some sort of “manly” accomplishment on your part and your inner self is quite pleased.
