I’m Not Ready for Porn — What TV Shows Could I Have Sex to Instead?

We get a lot of advice questions coming in at EMandLO.com, but sadly, we just can’t answer them all. Which is why, once a week, we turn to you to decide how best to advise a reader. Make your call on the letter below by leaving your advice in the comments section.

Dear Em & Lo,

My partner and I aren’t quite ready to watch porn while having sex, but I had an idea that we could start of by having sex while putting on some especially sexy television. Do you have any favorite shows or even specific episodes that would be good for this?

Thanks,
Whip

  1. Oh, and it might not be that sexy (pirate life was nasty, brutish and short), but Black Sails has equal nudity between men and women.

  2. Television? I don’t know. I get into plots – I wouldn’t want to watch up till the sex scene then stop watching. Plus, the sex scenes are usually pretty short. That wouldn’t work for me.

As for being “ready” to have sex while watching porn, you know that’s not even something you have to do, right? Are you “not ready for it” or just “not into the idea”? Because that’s ok you know.

    1. Johnny, by “ready,” we’re guessing that the reader means he or she is just not there emotionally yet, and that something a little more “lite” would warm them up to the idea. But you’re right –TV is just so good these days (especially cable TV, where most of the good sex is) that it would be hard to take a break from the plot to have sex. Maybe between episodes?

Also, on a side note: Maybe that’s why porn movies traditionally have such terrible plot lines… so nobody minds taking a break from the film to have sex!

      1. Hm. Emotional readiness is a concept I have trouble relating to. If something excites me (not just sexually, either) it’s happening as soon as I can make it happen. I can’t fathom what about the emotional process would prevent two people who want to watch porn together from just clicking a video on a free web site. Like, are they standing in front of the computer holding each other and trembling? Saying, “You click it.” “No YOU click it!”? They can close it if they don’t like it! No harm done.

Which is why I wonder whether they’re actually just not into this idea, rather than emotionally unready.

      2. There’s also the problem of those cable shows having so much violence. Like, Narcos had a really hot sex scene the other night involving Pablo Escobar and a mistress and a gun-slash-dildo… but the decapitations and shootings and hangings in the same episode are probably a boner killer!
