Dream Interpretation: I Got a Rave Review from a Hot Actor

Other people’s dreams are never interesting…except when they’re about sex. Each week, our dream analyst Lauri Loewenberg tells one lucky reader what their dirty dream means. This week, a reader asks Lauri:

I’ve been having dreams lately about an actor who I think is attractive. I’m certainly not obsessive about him consciously, but I guess my subconscious sure is… This is the latest dream:

I was volunteering for a vacation bible school program, and the skit was on a large stage at the local theater. The actor was also in the skit, and in my dream I noticed him watching me very intently. After the skit was finished, I asked him for an autograph. He obliged, and wrote something about my “superb acting skills.” I went into a camper to find my cellphone, leaving him talking to my mother. As I left, I heard her saying to him, “I heard you talking to my daughter…” but I didn’t get to hear the rest of the conversation. When I came out of the camper, without my cellphone, I woke up.

Lauri: Aside from his dashing good looks, there is something else about this actor that your inner mind has attached itself to. In general, when we get celebrities in our dreams, it’s often more about a character they have played, a show they were in or a song they are known for that speaks to us than it is about the actual person. However, the context of your dream seems to indicate it is more about the fact that he is an actor than anything else. In what way have you been “acting” or not been behaving as yourself lately? Or is there something going on where you need to be on your best behavior and perform at your best?

The actor is watching you intently in the dream. When we feel someone watching us in a dream it means we feel we are being scrutinized in waking life. At the time of this dream, what was going on that made you feel all eyes were on you? The congratulations this actor gives you is really your own inner performer giving you a pat on the back for a job well done. Did you act your way through a tough situation? Or were you recently being put to the test and gave an Oscar-winning performance?

Whatever the case, it seems that now you have a communication issue to deal with, hence having no cellphone at the end of the dream. Not hearing the rest of the conversation between your mom and the actor suggests that there is an unfinished conversation you need to have in real life. Your dream may be telling you it’s time, once again, to step into your acting shoes and take on the role of the caring nurturer – represented by your mom – so that this communication issue can end with a round of applause rather than boos, hisses, and rotten tomatoes!
