Other people’s dreams are never interesting…except when they’re about sex. Each week, our dream analyst Lauri Loewenberg tells one lucky reader what their dirty dream means. This week, a reader asks Lauri:
I have a boyfriend and I am so happy with him. I had a dream last night about a guy I used to see off and on for ages. But it never fully worked out because he was too scared to have a girlfriend. So it was sort of left unfinished. I had a dream me and him were in bed making out and trying to have sex but people kept on interrupting, like, coming in knocking on windows. It was so frustrating in the dream. And he also whispered in my ear, “You’re the best girlfriend. I am so happy.”
Lauri: Since you mentioned you are so happy with your current boyfriend I will assume you are not still pining for this “sort of” ex. That being the case, I do think this dream is bringing to light a concern you may have been having lately about your current relationship. As you may know, we gals tend to move a little faster in the “ready to settle down” department than most guys do. Do you think you may be at that point but fear that he may not? Deep down, do you worry that your current boyfriend may get the wishy washies like the ex?
The sex you are trying to have in the dream but never do is directly connected to the union, commitment and satisfaction you were never able to get from the ex… and part of you may worry that the relationship you are in now may end up the same way.
All the persons that kept interrupting what you were trying to do in the dream represent the different parts of your ex’s “person”-ality that kept him from fully committing to a relationship with you. Do you see any of those same personality traits in your boyfriend? Or are you afraid they will show up if you were to mention that you’d like the relationship to go to the next level?
What you need to focus on is the end of the dream because that is usually where the most important part of the message is. You are told that you are the best girlfriend. Now that is actually coming from yourself. Through this dream you are reassuring yourself that you kinda rock and that your current boyfriend probably digs the hell outta ya… and it’s a darn shame the ex couldn’t hang on because he is obviously missing out! In other words, things are going great. Keep doing what you’re doing and keep enjoying things the way they are. Time will tell if this relationship is ready for the next step.
