Other people’s dreams are never interesting…except when they’re about sex. Each week, our dream analyst Lauri Loewenberg tells one lucky reader what their dirty dream means. This week, a reader asks Lauri:

I couldn’t be more uneasy right now. I woke up from a dream where a close friend of mine revealed that she’s sleeping with a guy that I’m seeing. I’ve dreamt it before but this time my response was different. I screamed. Cried. And I hit her over and over. She’d speak and I’d hit her. I’d think about it and just hit her. Right now the guy and I aren’t on the best of terms. She told me months ago how handsome she thought he was and it didn’t sit right with me. Please help.

Lauri: Don’t let your anger over the current not-so-great situation with this guy be misdirected at your friend. Many months ago, when your friend told you she thought your boyfriend was handsome, it seems that you allowed it to upset you rather than take it as a compliment. This must have planted a seed of concern within you, a seed of fear that this hot potato might be hard to hold on to. And all these months later, now that things aren’t going so well between the two of you, you are realizing that seed of concern has grown quite a bit and has even branched out into these dreams!

Your friend’s remark is what planted the seed, therefore she represents the fear and concern you have that he may slip away to someone else. That’s why she is on the receiving end of your frustration and anger in the dream. She’s not really playing herself but instead represents the fear you’d like to beat down and rid your psyche of. That’s also why every time she spoke, you beat her. She is the voice inside your head that tries to tell you he no longer really wants you, he’s found someone else, etc. So it is actually a good thing that you are not allowing that paranoid voice to say too much to you. Just keep in mind, it’s not your friend talking in this dream, it is your own fearful self talking.
