I remember when [my younger cousin] was little, he once knocked a rubber ball into a shallow ditch beside the yard. He let out an aggrieved wail, and his mom ran over saying, “Oh no, what’s the problem?” before climbing into the ditch to get the ball. My dad muttered, “That’s the problem, right there…”

Is my cousin a selfish lover? Impossible to say! Now a high school graduate, he has never gotten anywhere near a girl in his life.
