Other people’s dreams are never interesting…except when they’re about sex. Each week, our dream analyst Lauri Loewenberg tells one lucky reader what their dirty dream means. This week, a reader asks Lauri:
In real life, I had just come home from hanging and making out with a classmate — he’s the first guy I’ve been interested in since my break up with my former long-term BF. Then I had this dream: I am making out with one of my good friend’s fiancees!! Even though it’s not actually the guy, I know it’s him in my dream. I’m allowing him to cheat on her with me! I don’t condone, nor have I ever cheated in my life, so when I woke up I felt so guilty even though I’d done nothing wrong. (I suppose it’s relevant that I’ve never been attracted to this friend’s fiancé in my life). What do you think?
Lauri: I think the dream is not necessarily about your friend’s fiancé but rather what he represents: commitment. You were in a very long committed relationship before and I’m sure that was hard as heck on you when it came to an end. And now, here you are, finally finding yourself interested in someone again! Kissing your classmate in real life helped you break a psychological barrier. You probably realized, “Hell yeah, I CAN see myself with someone else!” This was likely on your mind as you drifted off to sleep so your inner dreaming mind took it a step further for you by hooking you up with someone that is betrothed…. Because remember, it’s not about your friend’s fiancé but what he represents: a man that is commitment-worthy. I think it is interesting that you used the words “I’m allowing him.” To me, it seems that – through this dream – you are allowing yourself to be open to a commitment again. That’s a good, healthy dream you’ve got there young lady. Good luck to you!
