One state at a time! Last Friday evening New York passed a marriage equality bill, allowing gay couples to finally legally marry in the state. Within hours the Empire State building was lit up in a rainbow of colors — woohoo! The pics of the building went Twitterrific all weekend. The most plausible explanation we’ve heard is from The Atlantic: the rainbow display had already been planned for the Gay Pride Parade held yesterday (and which was only able to be done because of a previous, all-expense paid installation for a Gerry Garcia tribute by the band Further last November) — it was just serendipity that the bill passed on the same weekend as the Pride Parade lighting plan.
Check out the Denver Post (of all places) for some great images from yesterday’s parade.
