Just How Stupid Is That Homophobic Pastor’s Plan to Round Up Gays?

This video of a North Carolinian pastor spewing homophobic hate has been making the rounds. Made “pukin’ sick” by the thought of men kissing men, Pastor Charles Worley comes up with a big idea to get rid of homosexuality once and for all — a “final solution,” if you will:

Build a great big large fence, 150 or 100 miles long. Put all the lesbians in there. Fly over and drop some food. Do the same thing with the queers and the homosexuals. Have that fence electrified so they can’t get out. Feed ‘em, and– And you know what? In a few years they’ll die out. You know why? They can’t reproduce.

The guy is obviously an idiot. But let’s just break down how extraordinarily stupid he is. His method for homosexuality extinction is how an adverse recessive gene might try to be expunged from a population: isolate those with the recessive gene and keep them from reproducing, forcing the recessive gene to die out when all its carriers do. This, of course, is based on the fact that genes get passed down via reproduction — something homosexuals can’t do together. Which the pastor acknowledges. (Of course, his brain can’t even comprehend the reality of gays and lesbians having their own biological children via donor eggs/sperm, and thus passing down their own “gay” genes….another example of his limited brain function, but we digress.)

So if we give the pastor the benefit of the doubt, and assume his argument is not based on the idea that gayness gets passed down genetically, then he must be suggesting that homosexuality always results when someone is convinced to become gay — by older gay adults, by gay TV personalities, by government laws that give homosexuals rights, basically by a widespread media campaign by “the gays” to promote the joys of the gay lifestyle. And so, according to his idea, when all the gay people are rounded up, recruitment of new members will immediately cease — and when no one is telling people it’s okay to be gay, no one will become gay.

How is this so stupid? Let us count the ways. First, it assumes that there are no straight people fighting for gay rights. Second, it doesn’t account for the origin of homosexuality — if everyone who’s gay was convinced to choose to be gay, then who convinced the first gay person who ever existed? Who convinced the pre-internet, pre-TV kid who grew up in a “good Christian family” on a farm down south — without a single out person in sight as an example and without a single incentive — to go gay? And, assuming Pastor Worley’s plan could be enacted, once all the gays and lesbians have died out, what’s to stop another gay person or two or three or four from sprouting up spontaneously, as it must have happened before, thus beginning the grass-root recruitment campaign (albeit from scratch) all over again? The layers of this plan’s (and the Pastor’s) stupidity are like an onion!

By the way, if he’s telling his congregation who to vote for, at least by telling them who NOT to vote for, in the presidential election (and he does, at minute 1:20 in the video), shouldn’t his church lose its tax-exempt status? Just sayin’, IRS.
