Get the female condom at EdenFantasys
Advice from three of our guy friends. This week they answer the following: “How do men feel about the female condom? And if you’ve never had experience with one, how would you feel if your partner wanted to wear one?” To ask the guys your own question, click here.
Straight Single Guy (Tom Miller): I think I’ve only ever seen the female condom in a photograph. Personally, I’m torn between the discomfort of a regular condom and the terror of an accidental pregnancy or sores on my genitalia. Like pizza, even mediocre sex is pretty awesome. I think most guys would give the female condom a try, especially if the alternative is jerking off alone.
Straight Married Guy (Matt): I honestly don’t know the first thing about the female condom. I’ve never heard another guy mention encountering one. I had to check out Wikipedia for more info, and from the alleged crinkling sounds during sex (non-latex versions, apparently) to the ability to reuse the things five times or so after washing them out* (I sure as hell hope that’s five times with the same penis!), to the general design of the thing, I imagine that sex with a female condom lies just a hair above lubricated handjob on the desirability scale. I probably wouldn’t have passed it up in my single days, but it’s one more thing that makes me happy as hell to be in a monogamous, condomless relationship. *Note from Em & Lo: We do NOT advocate this, and neither do the makers of the female condom!! One female condom per sesh, please.
Gay Committed Guy (Terence): Totally and completely out of my depth with female condoms. Do women have condoms nowadays? When did this happen and where was I? Oh yeah, that’s right. I was with my boyfriend.

My gay roommate tried these with one of his special friends… apparently compared with regular condoms they were AWESOME. He was so excited about it he couldn’t help but give me more details than I really needed… heh.
Like most people (evidently) I’ve never used a female condom myself. But I talked to a couple of women who have. And they were pretty darned happy with them. For pretty good reasons, actually. The one who dished the most detail made it sound pretty good for men too.
She said they’re great for men with erection problems, including guys who wilt while trying to put on a regular condom. (Uggh, I hate that!) She said they make initial entry feel more natural and seamless. That’s true in part because you can put them in sooner. You can also do more interesting things with female condoms and lube. Since they’re made of nitrile or polymer instead of latex they don’t give you that awful (and, for some women, chaffing) squeaky-rubber friction you can get even when you’re using bottled lube.
She also said it was great for anal sex, which makes me wonder if the official name makes people think it’s just for women. Since anyone could use it for receptive anal sex it might be better if they’d called it a “recipient’s condom.”
Anyway, in addition to saying that for her (and at least some of her partners) female condoms felt and functioned better, she also said they provide the same protection as regular condoms.
If I ever find myself in a situation where I need to use condoms again then if my partner were willing I’d definitely be interested in giving female condoms a try.
